U.S. President Donald Trump says he is rescinding Prime Minister Mark Carney’s invitation to join his Board of Peace after the Canadian leader skipped the group’s first meeting and delivered a speech widely viewed as rebuking Mr. Trump for ending the U.S.-led rules-based international order.

Mr. Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post written as he flew back to Washington from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday.

“Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please let this Letter serve to represent that the Board of Peace is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s joining, what will be, the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled, at any time,” the President wrote.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Trump appeared to be struggling to get the U.S.’s traditional allies to join his Board of Peace, which held its first meeting in Davos. French President Emmanuel Macron outright rejected an invitation to join while Britain, Germany, and most other European countries did not attend. The White House initially listed Belgium as a signatory to the group’s charter before the country clarified that it had not actually signed.
