Older dogs often find themselves being "overlooked" when people are searching for a new furry friend, according to Dogs Trust, which can leave them spending their lives in a rehoming centre. Luckily for 16-year-old Colin that has not been the case as he was the first dog adopted from the Glasgow rescue centre in 2026. Gillian Andrade came to the kennel soon after New Year to pick up her new family member after spotting him on the Dogs Trust website and Colin ‘melted her heart’. He came into Dogs Trust's care in December 2025 after being rescued through the charity’s Chance of a Lifetime scheme (COAL) which is a scheme that rescues dogs from council pounds in Northern Ireland, transferring them within the UK to one of the Dogs Trust’s rehoming centres. Colin spent just 26 days at Dogs Trust Glasgow before being happily adopted into a new family. Gillian Andrade said: “I have a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, called Poppy, and I was looking for another dog. When I saw Colin on the Dogs Trust website, my heart melted. "I know older dogs are often overlooked, and I don’t like to think of older dogs in kennels during winter. I think both of my dogs will help each other in different ways. Colin is going to be so spoiled now.” Dogs trust posted the news about Colin getting adopted on Twitter, saying: "Sweet 16 year old Colin has been matched up to his perfect retirement home and we're sure he'll be getting all the fuss made of him with those puppy dog eyes!" Oh Colin, we’re over the moon for you. TeamDogs wishes you all the best in your forever home. |
