Atoms Winter Weekly Recap

Boys Basketball played all three games on the road this week with the first one at Madison on Monday evening. The Warhawks played a solid a game all around as they ran away from the Atoms in the second half to get the non-district win. Next up was a trip to Alexandria to take on perennial region power Hayfield. Unfortunately, the result was any different from Monday night as the Hawks put the Atoms away in the second half to get the National District victory. Friday night was the final bus trip of the week as the Atoms traveled to Mt. Vernon. The Atoms played a gritty Major's team but their defense was on showcase all night as they held the Major's to 24 points to come home with the win. The Atoms return home Tuesday vs TJ,

Girls Basketball got on the big yellow bus twice this week traveling down 95 to Hayfield and Mt. Vernon respectively. Wednesday was a matchup with the Hawks and showed why the Hawks are expected to compete for a region championship this year as they dominated from the opening tip. Friday was a second varsity doubleheader for the week at the Majors of Mt. Vernon. The Atoms were able to take care of some Major's turnovers early and jump out to an early lead. It was a lead that they would not relinquish as they rolled to an easy district win. The Atoms travel to TJ evening before returning home for senior night on Thursday vs Lewis.

Gymnastics tumbled onto the mat this week at Lake Braddock as they prepare for the upcoming National District Championship meet in a couple of weeks. Several Atoms including repeat region representative Kate Hanlen had another great meet, placing in a couple events. The rest of Atoms continue to improve their skills and trend in the right direction as they look to qualify for the region championship meet in February.

Indoor Track had the week off but several athletes get on the track today at the Montgomery Invitational.

Swim & Dive traveled down to GW Rec Center next to Mt. Vernon last night for the matchup with the Majors. It was complete domination from the beginning to the end as the Atoms took care of business vs the Majors. The boys team continued to stay undefeated on the season while the girls got back on the winning side of things. The Atoms splash in the pool again tonight as they have their makeup meet with Lewis tonight at Franconia.

Wrestling had a tri meet at Lewis Monday evening and the youth of Atoms continue to grow and get better with each match. The Atoms battled hard throughout each match ending the Justice match with a tie but lost due to a technical point in the matches. The Atoms are hosting their annual Atoms Classic today starting at 9:00am.

*Check back next week as we will publish our spring season tryout times!*

In the meantime, save the date of Monday, February 23 for the first day of spring tryouts!

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Lissette Puna.
