My husband and I both grew up in wide open spaces where the chickens, pigs, dogs and pretty much all animals roamed free. So now that we lived in the city, we didn’t want to get any pets that would have to be confined.

Our two sons, however, loved dogs. The first word my older boy, Caleb, learned to say was not “mom” or “dad.” It was “woof.” He would be on his bed ready to go to sleep, and when he heard the neighbor’s dog barking, he would sit up and say “Woof, woof!” over and over. (Keep reading)
