The Testament of Ann Lee,
the wonderful – and wonderfully peculiar – musical drama written by Mona Fastvold and Brady Corbet, the same duo that brought us
The Brutalist last year. The story, set in the 18th century and spanning decades, follows Lee, a British girl born in impoverished obscurity who gradually becomes the founder and spiritual leader of the Shakers religious sect. Critic Barry Hertz calls Seyfried’s performance ‘entrancing’ in a film that is both confounding and dazzling.
