Dear Direct Response Letter Subscriber:
For those of you who vociferously tell me, "AI is great for writers"...
...here is a note from my subscriber LB, whose view is, like mine, quite the opposite.
LB writes:
"Bob, thank you for your email. 100% agree. What I don't understand is so many company's wholehearted embrace of AI and trying to convince their employees it's great, even as it's actively taking jobs.
"And if you express any doubt, you're just not 'forward-thinking' enough or you are accused of being fearful of innovation. I can't tell what's real or AI anymore online. We all need to get off social media and demand this stuff be banned.
"It's a very serious situation. It's truly terrifying. People need to wake up.
"I switched to a copywriting career 3 and a half years ago. Now, there's only a fraction of jobs available online that there was before AI LLMs were released for public use. And my pay isn't going up no matter how much my expertise is going up....
"...because AI is learning faster than me! This is a nightmare. And my friend who majored in graphic design has applied to over 200 jobs with a great resume and no one calls her back because what takes her hours takes AI seconds.
"The worst part about AI is that it took away something very important to me: my dignity as a writer, i.e. that I have worked hard [on developing] a unique skill and expertise that offers immense value.
"Instead, I no longer add value to my company because something else (that's not even human) can do my job better than me (or, at least it eventually will be able to as fast as it's learning).
"The hundreds of hours I have spent studying, all the money I have spent investing in online courses and buying books on copywriting (including yours), and all the years I've spent bettering myself to become a valuable asset to my clients... all replaced by a literal machine, not even a human.
"My dignity as a writer in the workplace is gone.
"God help us, Bob. We need more people like you using your voice to raise the alarm. AI is taking real jobs in real time. Why are we being gaslit to embrace this stuff by literally every advertiser, company, billionaire, boss, and constant stream of ads about how great AI is?"
Regards,
