MajorGeeks Newsletter:
December 2025

The holidays are here, the coffee is strong, and somewhere a Windows update is still waiting to reboot your PC at the worst possible moment. Before we dive into this year's Holiday Edition, we want to take a moment to say thank you!

Whether you’ve been reading daily, grabbing downloads, sharing our posts, or just stopping by when something breaks, we genuinely appreciate you being part of the MajorGeeks community all year long.

Now grab some eggnog - if that is your thing - fire up a PC , and let’s ring in the season the geek way!

Epic Games Store Holiday Free Games 2025:

Epic is celebrating the season by giving away games. Lots of games. From 12/18 to 12/31, they are dropping a free game every day for a limited time. Ranging from big-name titles to solid indie gems.  Each game has a 24 hour window where it is available, and then it is gone. If you missed it, you missed it.

To make things easier, we’ve set up a dedicated page that tracks the rumored games, confirms each release as it goes live, and hunts down the correct claim links for you, so you don’t have to dig through social posts or guess which rumor is real.

The only thing you need is an Epic Games account to grab the freebie. You don't have to download and store it until you want to play it.  It's a gift that keeps on giving!.

Check back daily, grab the freebie, and keep it forever — zero catch, zero cost.

Freeware Spotlight

Universal Tool Updater. :This is a nifty little piece of freeware that those with a significant collection of open-source and portable apps will simply fall in love with. Instead of keeping track of every page and checking each app on startup, witha little configuration, these apps can check those programs for you, when you want to. Fantastic time saver.

FolderFresh is a smart file-organizing tool that automatically cleans up messy folders. If you are anything like me. You have files and folders all over your drive. My clutter is so bad, I feel like I won some sort of award just for finding the dang document I was looking for. Folder Fresh can solve that.  With a single click, it sorts files into neatly categorized folders using Smart Sorting and Auto-tidy rules, while letting you preview every change before anything happens. An undo feature, customizable category names, and safety controls make it easy to declutter even large folders and subfolders safely.  It’s a simple way to bring order back to chaos and a very Geek-worthy addition to your tool kit.

Fooocus: Ever want to try AI image editing but bounced off because of high prices, questionable results, or images that somehow end up with 10 fingers on one hand, and they still charge you? If that sounds familiar, Fooocus is a great place to start. It’s a zero-cost way to see what all the AI image buzz is about, without subscriptions or paywalls. This is a local (meaning on your PC) program that then calls in a language model, which again runs locally. Meaning your data is your data. Compared to many other tools, it’s surprisingly easy to install, straightforward to use, and makes an excellent entry point into the world of AI image generation and editing, minus the frustration and mystery fees.  You'll need some space for this one — like 10 gigs to be safe.  So be aware of that.

WinTool for Windows 11 is a practical PowerShell-based utility designed to give you the ability to improve the performance, stability, and overall usability of your PC without being overcomplicated.  It bundles a collection of fixes, patches, and optimizations into an easy-to-use interface that works just as well for casual users as it does for power users. WinTool also appeals to anyone who prefers a more traditional Windows layout, restoring familiar behavior like classic taskbar placement and a cleaner, more functional context menu.

KDE Connect  seamlessly links your PC and phone, letting you share notifications, transfer files, control media playback, and even use your phone as a remote. It’s a solid alternative to Microsoft Phone Link (that, quite frankly, sucks), especially if you want more flexibility and cross-platform support. Clipboard sharing alone is a huge productivity boost, making copy-and-paste across devices feel effortless. If you rely on your phone and PC equally for your things, try this one.

As we wrap things up (Get it? “wrap”? Sorry, had to, and I don't feel bad about it. :)), we again want to say thank you for being part of the MajorGeeks community. Whether you stop by every day or only when something breaks, we truly appreciate you reading, sharing, and supporting us. We really can't express in words how grateful we are. It's humbling.

We hope all the free games, software, and deals we’ve rounded up help make your holiday season a little easier or at least a little more fun. And if you’re hunting for a last-minute gift, consider buying a geek a coffee. It helps keep the servers running, the downloads flowing, and the lights on. We promise to put the caffeine to good use. Plus, as a bonus, supporters will get a song we just released - The Geek Life. (Yeah, you read that right.) First of its kind. :)

If you get bored during the week, stop into the Forums to say hi and share your stories.

Wishing you a happy, healthy holiday season and a great start to the new year.
