Principal Message:

Dear GBW Families,

As we approach the final school day of 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible energy and growth we have seen within our classrooms this semester.  Our students, teachers, staff, and families have all worked so hard to support student learning and wellness in 2025!  We are incredibly grateful to our strong partnership with our families, and we recognize that we could not do this amazing work without your support.

Our teachers have spent the past several weeks giving 100% to teaching and learning so that we could finish the 2025 school year strong.  As shown in a previous email from the school, our students at GBW have been performing strong on their state assessments which was recognized when Greenbriar West ES received the following recognition from the Virginia Department of Education (shown below).

Message from the Virginia Department of Education:

“I am pleased to congratulate your staff and your school community on achieving the Distinguished category on the Commonwealth’s School Performance and Support Framework, an honor that reflects the highest levels of commitment, consistency, and belief in what your students can achieve.”

Mrs. Odom and I are so proud of our students and staff for this amazing accomplishment!  For this winter break, our hope is that students, staff, and our community takes time to rest, recharge, and reconnect with family and loved ones.  We have a lot of important work to continue at GBW in 2026, and we plan on having a strong launch to another amazing year of learning when we return in January.

Thank you again everyone, and we wish you and your families a safe, warm, and wonderful winter break!

Sincerely,

Mr. Blount and Mrs. Odom

FUN: Games, sports, and even planning events together. Let’s make GBW a place where EVERYONE is growing, learning, and enjoying school together!

About PALs: We know just how important it is to build social connections at school. For some of your peers, that can be really hard! Let’s work together to make GBW known for kindness and inclusion!

Virginia Quality Birth to Five (VQB5)

VQB5 builds on health and safety standards by measuring the quality of teacher-child interactions and the use of curriculum. Refer to “VQB5 for Families English/Spanish” for more information.
