In a seismic shift for one of television’s marquee events, the Academy Awards will depart ABC and begin streaming on YouTube beginning in 2029, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday.

ABC will continue to broadcast the annual ceremony through 2028. That year will mark the 100th Oscars.

But starting in 2029, YouTube will retain global rights to streaming the Oscars through 2033. YouTube will effectively be the home to all things Oscars, including red-carpet coverage, the Governors Awards and the Oscar nominations announcement.

Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner made a brief court appearance Wednesday but did not enter a plea on the two counts of first-degree murder he’s been charged with in the killing of his parents.

Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, told the court it was “too early” to enter a guilty or not guilty plea and agreed to delay the arraignment until Jan. 7, 2026.

Nick Reiner appeared from behind the glass wall of a custody area in shackles and wearing a jail suicide prevention smock. During the short hearing, he only said “yes, your honor” when asked by Judge Theresa McGonigle if he understood he has the right to a speedy trial.

Jared Kushner’s private equity firm says it is dropping out of the group of firms that planned to back Paramount Skydance’s hostile takeover bid for Warner Bros. Discovery.

“With ​two ​strong competitors ​vying to secure ​the future ​of this ​unique American ​asset, ​Affinity ​has ​decided no longer to pursue ​the opportunity,” a spokesperson for the company led by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law said in a statement to NBC News.

“The dynamics ​of the investment have changed significantly ​since we initially became ​involved ​in October,” the firm said. “We ​continue to ​believe ​there is a strong strategic rationale for Paramount’s offer.”

Legendary pro wrestler Mick Foley announced Tuesday he’s done with World Wrestling Entertainment for at least three years, citing the company’s close ties to Donald Trump and the president’s “incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death.”

Foley told his 633,000 Instagram followers that he informed the WWE on Monday that he “would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.”

“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy,” Foley wrote.
