| Every state is represented by two statues in the halls of the Capitol building. In 2020, then-Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) had requested removal of the state’s Lee statue and worked with a legislative commission to select Barbara Rose Johns as the replacement. Her statue joins George Washington’s to represent Virginia. |
