Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow, Together Again |
Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow spent their 20s running in the same social circle of aspiring artists. “There were no phones,” Hawke says. “I tell my kids you would just go to places hoping to meet people.” So the pair were thrilled when they were both cast in Alfonso Cuarón’s Great Expectations—a movie filmed as Hawke’s career was on the upswing, thanks to films like Reality Bites and Before Sunrise, and Paltrow was about to break out thanks to the four other movies featuring her that would be released in 1998—including Shakespeare in Love, which would win her an Oscar. This fall, Paltrow and Hawke came together again for another edition of Vanity Fair’s Reunited series to talk about their buzzy new roles (in Marty Supreme and Blue Moon, respectively), their first make out session (which was not in Great Expectations), and the real advantage of being a nepo baby.
Elsewhere in HWD, Amanda Seyfried goes deep on her 2025 double feature of The Testament of Ann Lee and The Housemaid; Samantha Bergeson delves into the semi-autobiographical movie Nick Reiner made with his father, Rob Reiner—10 years before being arrested as a suspect in his parents’ murder; we look back at the elder Reiner’s life in pictures; and beyond Reiner, we remember 21 other celebrities who died in 2025. |
