💛 Welcome, Carina!

Hi! I’m Carina Wolff ! I’m an LA-based writer and recipe developer, and I’ve recently become a mom! Over the summer, my husband and I welcomed our baby boy, which was such a special moment for us, as we went through two years of infertility and ultimately IVF. I’ve always loved getting out of the house over the weekend, checking out new restaurants and coffee shops and shopping at various markets. Thankfully, having a baby hasn’t stopped me, and although our outings certainly look a little different, now we just bring our son with us!

We love going to the farmers market (Hollywood and Brentwood are my favorite), and my favorite thing to do is to come home and make a big salad after picking up a bunch of fresh fruits and vegetables. We also love to walk around flea markets — there are so many in LA happening at all times. We’ve picked up a lot of the furniture in our house from the Rose Bowl Flea Market or the Long Beach Flea Market, and we also love going down to the vintage clothing stores in Highland Park.

I like to allow myself a slower pace on the weekend — no jumping out of bed, no rushing out the door. Although these days, my baby is dictating when we wake up and what time we leave ;)

I also like to lean into recipes that feel leisurely and luxurious. I’ll make my Lemon Cottage Cheese Pancakes with Berry Compote or something slow and cozy like brothy beans.

For the past four months, as a new mom, I’ve definitely had to adjust my mindset when it comes to how I spend my time. In the beginning, it felt impossible to cook the way I used to or get work done efficiently. It will of course never be the same, but there is also beauty in slowing down and asking for help. I’m fiercely independent, sometimes to my detriment, but becoming a mom has definitely encouraged me to lean on others. Cooking also feels more like a treat than ever.

A Few Good Things

• It sounds like a ridiculous wellness trend, but I really love bone broth hot cocoa, and I’ve perfected my recipe. I use the Hu Chocolate Baking gems and melt them down with some full fat coconut milk from a can (about ¼ cup chocolate with ⅓ cup coconut milk). Then I mix in some Kettle & Fire Beef Bone Broth (about 1 cup) until everything is heated and creamy. It still tastes like a delicious hot cocoa, but you get all the perks of bone broth, which is something I’ve been trying to include a lot of during postpartum for healing.
