Zodiac Killer Project Reveals True Crime’s Dirty Secrets |
Instead of a typical true-crime feature or series, British documentarian Charlie Shackleton decided to make the Zodiac Killer Project—a movie in which he’d explain exactly how he would have made a doc based on the now verboten book Silenced Badge. In his film, he lays bare how rote “prestige” true-crime documentaries and docuseries have become by taking a series of sharp jabs at true crime. He speaks to Eve Batey about how his theoretical film would have played out and whether he’s ruling out future use of the genre’s favorite tropes.
Elsewhere in HWD, Valentine Ulgu-Servant knows why George Clooney is jealous of Brad Pitt over Thelma & Louise; Ruth E. Carter answers the Proust Questionnaire; Wes Anderson fans can now carry the canon with them as they travel, with his signature aesthetic newly available for purchase; and Chris Murphy and Savannah Walsh have the best new movies and shows on Netflix this month. |
