For years, our middle child had been asking about going on a train and we hadn’t managed to find the right time to take him. He was already in first grade, and we worried we had waited too long to take him on a train ride, so I booked us a ride on one of those Polar Express trains.
We drove nearly two hours on a Sunday to get there, and I hoped he would still be innocent enough to enjoy the whole experience. When we boarded the train, he was asking questions about how fast we would go, how far we would travel, whether we were really going to the North Pole, how long it would take to get there, and whether time would slow down like in the movie.
