How to Develop Your Own Perspective on AI

If you want to make smarter decisions about AI—what tools to adopt, which use cases to prioritize—it’s time to dig deeper than the hype. You need to develop a personal, practical point of view to make sense of AI’s dizzying and relentless momentum. Here’s how to build one.

Seek diverse voices. Don’t rely on a single expert or echo chamber. Follow AI optimists, skeptics, and neutrals. Balance the enthusiasm with healthy doubt.

Compare findings to your lived reality. Whether it’s in your home or your company, ask: Does this research reflect what I’m seeing? If not, why not?

Use AI to read about AI (meta!). Ask an AI tool to summarize technical papers or curate updates for you. It saves time and sharpens your perspective.

Go beyond the headlines. Every so often, read an entire research paper. Headlines are built to catch your attention, not necessarily to inform.

Measure what matters to you. Don’t rely solely on outside data. Track your own AI usage (and your team’s) and the outcomes it leads to.

Pay attention to disagreement. When studies conflict, something interesting is going on. Dig in. Contradictions often signal hidden insights or opportunities.

Try your own methods. Social listening is accessible to everyone. Observe what people are saying online. It’s a powerful way to gauge what actually matters.
