Protect Against Respiratory Illnesses This Holiday Season
As we gather in doors due to cooler weather and holiday celebrations, protect yourself and your loved ones with these simple steps:
-
Get vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to prevent illness. Vaccines are available for flu, COVID-19 and RSV. See recommendations and eligibility requirements.
- Wash your hands often
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Clean surfaces regularly and avoid touching your face
- Stay home when sick

Have You Gotten Your Flu Vaccine Yet?
VDH dashboard numbers indicate that only 15% of people in the Fairfax Health District have received a flu vaccine.
Data for Fairfax Health District as of 11/25/2025
It's not too late to get vaccinated!
December 1-5 is National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) and serves as a reminder of the importance of the flu vaccine. If you haven't received your flu vaccine yet, make a plan to visit your doctor or local pharmacy and get vaccinated.
When Should You Use Antibiotics?
While antibiotics can save lives, they aren't always the answer to treating your illness. It is important to use antibiotics appropriately so you can get the best treatment when sick, protect against side effects and combat antimicrobial resistance.
