 PTA members from other area FCPS elementary schools are talking about the success and interest in joining the Wait Until 8th movement ( https://www.waituntil8th.org). The Wait Until 8th pledge empowers parents to rally together to delay giving their child a smartphone until at least the end of 8th grade. Colvin Run ES PTO ran their WU8th campaign at the start of the school year and have more than 120 families who've signed the pledge.
Flint Hill also has a parent group that launched its WU8th campaign a week ago and already has 35-40 pledges, activating the pledge for the 1st and 4th grades.
Two more local area FCPS schools are currently in the process of starting their campaign as well.
Every family is unique and so are their requirements regarding connection in the digital landscape. But if this interests you, you are not alone.
 Once 10 families have pledged from your child’s grade, you will be notified that the pledge is activated. Wait Until 8th will email you and the other parents who have signed from your child’s grade to connect you with each other. You will receive a list of families delaying from your child’s grade and parent emails to connect your group. This helps you to support one another. There is strength in numbers.

 Una vez que 10 familias hayan hecho el compromiso en el grado de tu hijo, ¡se te notificará que el compromiso está activado! Wait Until 8th te enviará un correo electrónico a ti y a los demás padres que hayan firmado en el mismo grado para conectarlos entre sí. Recibirás una lista de las familias que están retrasando (el uso del smartphone) en el grado de tu hijo, junto con los correos electrónicos de los padres para que su grupo pueda conectarse. Esto les ayuda a apoyarse mutuamente. La fuerza está en los números.
He estado en contacto recientemente con miembros de la PTA de otras escuelas primarias de FCPS en el área, y han estado hablando sobre el éxito y el interés en unirse al movimiento Wait Until 8th (https://www.waituntil8th.org).
