We’re baaack. As promised, here’s the second installment of our new newsletter: Weekend Non-Negotiables — a carefully skimmed list of what to watch, see, listen to, and do over the weekend. Think of it as a head start on the best part of the week. You’re welcome.
You worked hard enough this week. Let us plan your weekend…
Since everyone watches women’s sports now, we know exactly what you’ll be doing tomorrow at 8 pm ET: Rooting for the Washington Spirit or Gotham FC as they face off in the 2025 NWSL Championship (on CBS and Paramount+) — expected to be action-packed and completely up for grabs. Follow our coverage of one of the biggest weekends in women’s sports here, and keep an eye on our YouTube and Spotify channels for a special edition of our Well Played podcast.

What happens when Armchair Expert cohost Monica Padman tries to get to the bottom of why her favorite podcasters mysteriously went off the air? You get Beth’s Dead, a true-crime-style mystery complete with wild twists, Nancy Drew cosplay, and the kind of funny and raw conversations that turned her other show into a massive hit. Binge the first five episodes here.

Getting a jump on Black Friday deals this weekend? Start with a bag in the season’s breakout color — which is somehow just as neutral as black and brown, yet infinitely more stylish. Just ask Resident Cool Girls Dakota Johnson and Sabrina Carpenter. Or, grab this undeniably chic, under-$100 option for yourself.

Purists, avert your eyes: These are the seven Thanksgiving rules chefs say you can ignore. While we’re not totally sold on the first, we’ll happily go rogue with dessert — particularly when it’s these kid-friendly, crowd-pleasing Pumpkin Ooey-Gooey Bars. Oh, and if they don’t last until Thanksgiving? Well, guess you’ll have to make them again.
Happy (almost) weekend. I’m writing this from the comfort of my couch, since this is the first time in months when my weekend hasn’t been spent at one of my daughter’s Irish dance competitions. Those resume next weekend, so for now, I’m taking advantage of the chance to catch up on, well, everything. That includes:
Digging into Erica Peplin’s Work Nights, which is about a queer woman working at a newspaper and navigating a love triangle. It’s the kind of story that takes me back to my youth, when 11 pm was just the beginning of an anything-can-happen evening.
Finishing Wayward (I’m hooked on the Stranger Things vibes). Also, wrapping up The Way Home. A Hallmark Channel original with time travel, multiple generations of women who love but can’t understand each other, and Andie MacDowell? Yeah, it checks all the boxes for must-watch TV.
Preparing some Thanksgiving treats. My daughter picked this S’more Pudding Pie, which looks ridiculously delicious and only requires 15 minutes of baking time, and I’m intrigued by these viral, three-ingredient cookies.
