If you think you’ve had a bad day at work, spare a thought for BBC journalists, who this week have lost both their director general and CEO of news, and are now facing the prospect of a US$1 billion (with a B) lawsuit from Donald Trump.
Trump has a history of suing US media organisations that he thinks have been unfair to him, and coming away with large settlements. Will a case against a British organisation play out any differently? Legal expert Rebecca Moosavian explains the hurdles Trump would face in proving the BBC has defamed him. But, she explains, even just the threat of legal action is a win for the US president – and another blow to the BBC.
String theory, which many physicists are hoping could be the much-coveted theory of everything, is remarkably hard to test. Even the biggest particle colliders at Cern in Switzerland don’t have enough energy to break particles down into strings. Luckily, there may be other ways to help verify the theory – particularly through cosmological measurements.
Plus, while exercise might not be the key to helping you lose weight, a new study has raised the possibility it could not only help you preserve muscle mass as you drop the pounds, but actually enhance characteristics linked to healthier ageing.
