Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Big To-Do: Short Cuts, our midweek round-up of what’s going on around Boston, as selected by Boston Globe critics and writers.

Thursday

  • Boston Ballet kicks off its production of Balanchine’s “Jewels” at Citizens Opera House.

  • The boxing biopic “Christy,” starring Sydney Sweeney, opens in theaters. 

Friday

  • John Legend celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut album, “Get Lifted,” at MGM Music Hall at Fenway.

  • “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” creator Vince Gilligan launches his latest series, “Pluribus,” on Apple TV, starring Rhea Seehorn.

  • The Cabot in Beverly is hosting a special 50th anniversary screening of the classic documentary “Grey Gardens.”

  • Comedy icons Steve Martin and Martin Short bring their “Dukes of Funnytown!” show to the Boch Center Wang Theatre on Friday and Saturday night.

Saturday

  • Conan O’Brien, Sarah Silverman, and more comedy stars will join Denis Leary as Comics Come Home returns to TD Garden.

  • Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper, Salt-N-Pepa, Chubby Checker, and more will be honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, streaming on Disney+.

  • The Somerville Theatre is running a “Godzilla” movie marathon, featuring classics like the 1954 original film, as well as newer hits like 2016’s “Shin Godzilla.”

  • Somerville goes medieval on Saturday with Bow Market’s Urban Ren Faire, featuring knight fights, circus acts, Celtic music, and more.

  • The family-run Do Portugal Circus kicks off its run of shows in East Boston, setting up a large circus tent outside the Courtyard by Marriott hotel near Logan.




Sunday

  • Mondorla Music pays tribute to Boston jazz icon George Russell with a concert at Dorchester’s Peabody Hall.

Ongoing

  • The Boston Jewish Film Festival returns for its 37th year, with in-person screenings through Nov. 16, and virtually Nov. 17-19.

Last Chance

  • The Prudential Center is bringing “Downton Abbey” vibes with a special Fleurs de Villes pop-up floral show, which runs through Sunday.

  • The stage production “The 4th Witch” wraps its run at the Emerson Paramount Center‘s Robert J. Orchard Stage on Sunday.
