Are the Dodgers ruining baseball? What a question.
Yes, they spend to levels that few other teams contemplate, and yes, they have a team loaded with likely Hall of Famers, and yes, they are within reach of a dynastic claim. If Los Angeles wins this year’s World Series, they’d become the first MLB team to win back-to-back titles since the 1998-2000 Yankees.
The accomplishment inevitably would come with claims of a broken financial system that makes it impossible for a number of teams to compete and calls for a salary cap. Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged that possibility after his team swept the Brewers in the NLCS.
“Before this season started, they said the Dodgers are ruining baseball,” Roberts bellowed to the crowd at Dodger Stadium. “Let’s get four more wins and really ruin baseball!”
