Gabriel Allon is in London for an art reception when a police friend asks for his help with a perplexing murder in Cornwall. The victim is Charlotte Blake, an Oxford art history professor who appears to be the latest victim of a serial killer. Allon notices inconsistencies, including a missing phone and a three-letter cypher Blake left behind. He soon discovers that the professor was searching for a stolen Picasso worth over $100 million.
