Gerry Rardin was all of us Sunday, laughing and cheering as Mike Vrabel hightailed it down the sideline in Miami. Watching the game from his Ohio home, Rardin marveled as his former pupil matched the kickoff return heroics of Antonio Gibson nearly stride for stride, trailing Gibson all the way into the end zone, with fist pumping and celebrations to follow.
For Rardin, it’s not as if the sight of Vrabel sprinting down the sideline came as a surprise. He’s been witness to Vrabel’s intensity since coaching him through a storied career at Ohio’s Walsh Jesuit High School, watching him through an outstanding college career at Ohio State, and continuing to stay close to him through his Super Bowl-winning, Pro Bowl-caliber NFL life.
