iPhone Air delay: Apple delayed the launch of its new iPhone Air in mainland China, where regulators have yet to clear its eSIM-only design. Beijing’s chip retaliation: China’s Ministry of Commerce initiated two probes targeting the US semiconductor sector shortly after Washington added 23 more China-based companies to its restricted entity list. The exchange sets up a tense opening to a key meeting between US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng this week. Tencent’s OpenAI hire: Shenzhen-based Tencent has hired Yao Shunyu to work on integrating AI into its services, marking the return of a prominent AI scientist from the US to China.
