Good afternoon Wentyl, The last episode in our special series
Fertility Unpacked is out now – and it’s definitely worth watching.
About a month ago we aired a special-must watch conversation on all things IVF and fertility treatment.
It featured a panel of top experts and people with lived experience navigating the system,
including actor Olympia Valance.
Since then we’ve been rolling out special documentaries where real Aussies share their challenging and heartfelt journeys to parenthood in their own words. On Saturday we released our final one,
telling the incredible story of Sonia. She had been in the midst of IVF when her fiancé suddenly died in tragic and unexpected circumstances.
Five-and-a-half years later she transferred their one viable embryo while in perimenopause.
About to turn 50, she’s now a mum to 16-month-old MollyRose. It’s a really moving story and Sonia hopes it will help other older women wanting to be mums, including after menopause (where they would have to use donor eggs).
Although it comes with a higher risk with lower chance of succeeding, leaving IVF until later in life is happening more. We delve into that here.
In the second episode released a week earlier, we explored the huge emotional, physical and financial toll of IVF in a very emotional piece that followed a young couple with unexplained infertility over seven months.
For the first video, we told the story of Steph, who chose to become a mum on her own because she didn’t want to settle for a guy just to have a baby.
