Bashing on church leaders is practically a sport online. Maybe it’s just my social media feeds, but it seems there’s no end to the criticisms leveled against pastors and ministry leaders. Don’t get me wrong—some of it is deserved. But it seems we lay Christians are more reluctant to shine the light on ourselves and address our own shortcomings.
That’s why I appreciated Nadya Williams latest piece, “Shape Up, Sheeple.” She writes:
“American evangelicalism has paid close attention to these leaders of the flock … These conversations are all necessary, to be clear. But what about the sheep? Most of us are not shepherds, and just as it is difficult to be a good shepherd, so it can be difficult to be a good sheep.”
Read her thoughtful essay on why the church needs faithful sheep as much as faithful shepherds.
