US and Russian officials are converging on the state of Alaska - and the town of Anchorage - ahead of a highly anticipated meeting between Presidents Trump and Putin today. The pair will meet for the first time in six years, as Trump aims to achieve a ceasefire breakthrough on the war in Ukraine. He promised to do so within 24 hours when elected, but so far hasn't had success brokering a deal. Yesterday he assessed there was a "25% chance" the meeting would not be successful. Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky has been excluded from the talks, and warned that any resolutions made in his absence will be meaningless.

King says VJ Day heroes will 'never be forgotten'
|

In a special audio message recorded earlier this month, King Charles will mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day - or Victory over Japan Day - by honouring those whose "service and sacrifice" helped to bring an end to World War Two. Later today, the King and Queen, alongside Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will attend a service of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Data centres to be expanded across UK as concerns mount

Figures shared with BBC News suggest the number of data centres in the UK is set to increase by almost a fifth, as the growth in artificial intelligence (AI) increases the need for processing power. There are currently an estimated 477 such centres in the UK and there are concerns about the huge amount of energy and water the new data centres will consume. Read more.
