First came the gutty pitching of ace Garrett Crochet. Then, came the seventh-inning swing by Wilyer Abreu. Then, the pinch-hit heroics of Alex Bregman in the eighth and boom, more power from Abreu.
Finally, the Red Sox flood gates opened, and with the 6-1 win they delivered Sunday afternoon, they avoided a sweep against the National League-leading Cubs and headed to Philadelphia feeling the relief of returning to their pre-All Star break form. It was a classic example of better late than never, with all six of the runs coming in the seventh and eighth innings.
