Good afternoon, North Bay!

In our last newsletter, we said we may have some updates today about the controversy surrounding the mayor's use of his city credit card.

Boy oh boy, do we have some updates.

North Bay's chief financial officer Margaret Karpenko  unexpectantly announced her resignation yesterday.

Within hours after that shocker, The Nugget obtained a letter written by Karpenko's office in March of 2024 warning CAO John Severino about the mayor's inappropriate spending.

In her letter, Karpenko suggested to Severino that the mayor's credit card be taken away from him out of concern for "public opinion."

We also learned that around that same time Mayor Chirico agreed to pay back $6,000 in "personal" expenses charged to his credit card.

This story keeps on going, so we will see what next week holds.

Have a good weekend!
