Dear Reader,

What is a “true friend”? How much of your real self do you share with your friends? What gets in the way?

The Learning Network has been inviting young people to tell us about their lives and concerns for nearly two decades now, and this week we took some of our favorite teen-created pieces on the theme of friendship and put them all together.

Inside, you’ll find over 30 essays, podcasts, paintings, photos, videos and Tiny Memoirs that celebrate these connections and explore their nuances and complications — along with writing and discussion prompts to help you and your students engage with them.

So whether you’re using this collection to inspire your students’ work on the same topic, as material for discussion and study, to be read alongside adult texts on the same theme or for any other reason, we hope you’ll enjoy.

And as always, we also hope you’ll leave a comment telling these young artists what you think.

Sincerely,
The Learning Network

P.S. Week 7 of our Summer Reading Contest begins today.
