Working Lunch

Thursday, July 10, 2025

It's lunchtime, Chicago.

A mansion on Lake Michigan in Kenilworth was listed Wednesday for $15 million, making it the north suburban village's highest-priced listing in history. Builder Paul Starrett, who constructed the Empire State Building in New York and the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., built the 7,341-square-foot mansion in 1906. Yoanna Kulas, founder and owner of the design firm Caladrius Studio, bought the mansion for $4.5 million in 2020 and began a top-to-bottom renovation. Kulas calls the mansion a "treasure from a bygone era."

In other housing news, Illinois homeowners with State Farm insurance will soon have to dig a little deeper into their pockets. The insurer will raise homeowners insurance rates in the state by a whopping 27.2% beginning Aug. 15, according to a filing with the state last month. The rate hike will affect nearly 1.5 million policyholders.
