Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape yesterday to discuss the U.S.-Papua New Guinea partnership. During the meeting, Deputy Secretary Landau congratulated Papua New Guinea on its 50th anniversary of independence, which also marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries. They discussed ways to promote security and prosperity of both countries, and the broader Pacific region, through deepened cooperation.
