We need to talk about something important.

Your English is getting better every day. You might not realise it, but it’s true!

You can understand more complex conversations, read longer articles and feel more confident with the language.

But then, as you're reading the news over a cup of morning coffee, you see:

"The politician's nefarious scheme was tantamount to fraud."

And you freeze.

Are these two words – nefarious and tantamount – even English?

  • Looking for context clues doesn’t help.
  • Knowing prefixes and suffixes offers no clue.

“What could these words possibly mean?!” You’re left completely flummoxed… Ah! There's another one!

This is the brutal reality of C2-level English. There's a whole level of language that even some of the most advanced learners never reach.
