Both our beloved state and Montgomery County are hurting this week
Greetings, Montgomery County friends.
Both our beloved Lone Star State and our cherished Montgomery County are hurting this week after the unimaginable Texas Hill Country floods over the Fourth of July weekend.
In the 10 a.m. update from Kerr County, 111 have been confirmed dead across the state and 161 are still missing from Kerr County. Among those lost are a Montgomery County recent high-school graduate and a family with ties to East Montgomery County.
We mourn the loss of Claire “Reese” Manchaca, a recent Caney Creek graduate, who was spending the holiday weekend with friends in the Hunt area. Mark Keough, Montgomery County Judge, posted on Facebook this morning that Montgomery County deputies are escorting her back to Montgomery County today to be laid to rest.
We also remember the Burgess family. Dad John Burgess was the president elect of the East Montgomery County Rotary Club. John, his wife, Julia, and their two young boys were swept away from the Blue Oak RV Park between Hunt and Kerrville. John and Julia have been recovered and the boys remain missing.
The only comfort I feel is that Texans are coming together like Texans do. Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha reported this morning that more than 2,000 searchers were still on the ground dedicated to finding each missing person.
Take care of each other in this difficult time friends.
