You are receiving this message because you have subscribed to receive updates about DQ Atlas.
DQ Atlas is an interactive, web-based tool that helps policymakers, analysts, researchers, and other stakeholders explore the quality and usability of the Transformed Medicaid Statistical Information System (T-MSIS) Analytic Files (TAF). The TAF includes data on Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollment, demographics, service utilization, payments, providers, and managed care plans.
Below is information on new resources that have been added as of July 8, 2025.
Updates to data quality and analytic resource downloads in DQ Atlas
DQ Atlas now includes 4 new resources on the Analytic Briefs page, listed below:
-
The Use of the Same Medicaid ID Number for Live-Birth Delivery and Newborn Services in 2022 research brief reports the counts and percentages of shared Medicaid IDs for live-birth deliveries and newborn services to help TAF users understand the frequency of shared Medicaid IDs across states, using 2022 TAF data. It also incorporates data from 2017 to 2021 to assess how the practice of states using shared Medicaid IDs for newborn services has changed over time. (Note: This research brief was based on a previous brief that used 2016 data and was removed from DQ Atlas in November 2023. This new version of the brief includes more recent years and versions of data, additional year-to-year comparisons, and updated methodology, as outlined in the revision history table.)
-
The Providers of School-Based Services in TAF research brief presents the results of an analysis of calendar year 2022 data, focusing on the types of providers who furnish Medicaid-funded school-based services (SBS), how many and what kinds of services they provide, and the number of enrollees SBS providers serve.
As of July 2025, DQ Atlas includes updates on the Analytic Briefs page to the resources listed below:
-
The Identifying Beneficiaries with Full-Scope, Comprehensive, and Limited Benefits in the TAF methodology brief was updated to:
-
Add new valid values 'G' and '0' for restricted benefits code in the 'limited benefits' category
-
Revise the categorization of restricted benefits code ‘4’ to 'comprehensive benefits' for all states as of 2025 and provide contextual information for this update. Previously, restricted benefits code ‘4’ was considered 'limited benefits' for three states (Arkansas, Idaho, and South Dakota) and 'comprehensive benefits' for all other states.
-
Add contextual information about CHIP limited benefits coverage options
-
Update Table 2 (Benefit coverage category for medically needy and Section 1115 programs by state) to use updated information as of 2023. This table previously included information as of 2019.
-
The Time Required for Complete TAF Data methodology brief was updated to:
-
Clarify that the preliminary and final TAF RIF generally have 6 or 12 months of runout, respectively, given that some states may not have exactly 6 or 12 months of runout for each TAF RIF
-
Clarify the lag between state T-MSIS submission and TAF production
-
Update the visual for Figure 1 (Months of run-out for services delivered and enrollment in each month of a calendar year, by most recent month of interim TAF available)
The 'date published' field on the Analytic Briefs page now reflects the most recent date that the brief has been updated and published on DQ Atlas, rather than the first publication date.
See Release Notes for more information on previous updates to DQ Atlas.
