Learn about Potential Changes to Regulations for Battery Energy Storage Systems
On July 21 and 22, join a virtual community meeting to hear about proposed updates to the Zoning Ordinance that could impact how proposed battery energy storage systems (BESS) are reviewed. BESS is a technology that stores extra energy generated by various sources, such as solar panels or the electrical grid, in batteries for later use. This allows for a stable and reliable energy supply, especially for periods of high demand or when there is a power outage.
Save the date to join one of the following virtual meetings:
- Monday, July 21, at 12:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 22, at 7:00 p.m.
Each meeting will include the same content. The different dates and times are offered to provide flexibility for attendees. No registration is required.
As directed by the Board of Supervisors, county staff is developing a Zoning Ordinance amendment that would add new regulations for battery energy storage systems. Standards address topics like setbacks, screening, noise, and safety. Public hearings on the Zoning Ordinance amendment have not been scheduled.
