The project team will continue to collect feedback on the concept design for the Vacation Lane & Lorcom Lane Intersection Improvements Project, through Saturday, July 20.
Project Background
In 2023, Arlington County received several requests for a Transportation Safety Investigation through Report-a-Problem raising issues about safety at the intersection for people walking through the intersection.
Based on this feedback, along with planning guidance, safety and operational data, and field observations by our project team, DES transportation staff developed a concept design that addresses the issues identified with the intersection today and delivers on the goals for this project.
See the proposed changes to the intersection and tell us if you think they will make the intersection safer on the project page.

Starting the week of July 21, crews will begin construction on the East Falls Church Metro Station Bus Bay Expansion project, which is expected to be completed in summer of 2026.
Watch the Project Overview Video
The project will:
- Repave and reconfigure the bus loop on the north side of the station to expand capacity from the current four bus bays to seven, and install new bus shelters
- Implement pedestrian improvements on sidewalks, the Park-and-Ride lot, accessible parking spots, and crosswalks between North Sycamore Street and the bus loop driveway.
- Upgrade utilities and add a new signal at the intersection with North Sycamore Street
What to expect:
Work will begin on the north parking lot, and some spaces will close for equipment staging and initial work. There will be no impacts to bus travel during this stage, but buses will relocate during later phases of construction.

Construction activities have begun on the Military Road Safety Improvements Project, and crews have closed the northbound lanes on Military Road between 25th Place North to Nelly Custis Road & North Ridgeview Road.
This closure will be in effect through the end of October.
- One lane in each direction available on the southbound lanes of Military Road; the parking lane will close.
- The sidewalks adjacent to the work site will close one at a time in alternation; when one closes, the other will be open.
- Crosswalk detours are available at Nelly Custis Dr. & N. Ridgeview Rd., and at Military Rd. & 25th St. N.
What to expect:
At this time, the north sidewalk is closed, and all pedestrian traffic is being directed to the south sidewalk.
Drive with care as you approach the active work zone, to keep workers, other travelers, and yourself safe.
