A recent client of mine shared his experience with the mentorship program. He decided to hire me 2 years after going through a popular bootcamp and still not landing roles.
This video will give you a glimpse into what kind of success you can have with the program! I'm really proud of Tim for sticking with it.
How did I help Tim?
When Tim and I started working together I started with an Audit. I looked through his Github and LinkedIn, resume, etc. This showed me that he had some tech background (bootcamp grad) and was actively coding, but needed sharpened around the edges.
Coming from a bootcamp I immediately assumed there would be gaps in his knowledge. So we started with the fundamentals and crash-coursed the essentials of programming (beginner and intermediate levels). He picked it up quite quick because he was familiar with coding already, but needed a much stronger foundation.
We then began building out backends and working with databases. Tim went through material I provided to build a custom backend and deploy it to AWS, but he also applied these principles to his own project that used custom tools he was personally interested in (React, web scraping, automation).
We utilized Tim's background and strengths to find roles in a niche that gave him a competitive advantage (finance/insurance). He now had the upper hand when applying for roles because not only did he now have a much stronger technical background, he also had domain knowledge that made him more valuable to companies.
Throughout the entire journey Tim also worked on technical interview prep and building a solid foundation of computer science principles (data structures and algorithms, system design). As well as followed my recommendations on how to apply for roles and how to network properly.
For the job application I gave Tim my stamp of approval in a reference, which I believe helped seal the deal.
What Does Career Support Look Like in the Program?
This program does not offer garbage general career guidance. You'll learn from real software engineers with industry experience on what it takes to get hired at tech companies and excel in roles.
Here's what happens when you join the program:
We start off with a complete audit.
Consider this an initial snapshot of your current situation and where you are with your career. This includes going through your resume and work history, LinkedIn, portfolio, GitHub, and other social media and platforms.
The great thing is that this is a custom tailored program, so we meet you exactly where you are and build the bridge for you to achieve your goals.
We then do an analysis of where we want to end up.
This will give you a clear picture of where you currently are, what gaps need filled in the resume, and what types of roles we should be looking out for.
Then, we do a networking overhaul.
Turns out you've been job searching all wrong. I will teach you how to have unlimited opportunities knocking at your door. This is the exact strategy I've used to land nearly all of my roles.
Next, we skill prep.
Getting interviews is great, but if you can't perform technically we're not going to get very far. I first help you build software development skills, which are critical before we even consider technical interviews. Then I help you prepare for behavioral interviews, applied coding interviews, DSA / Leetcode interviews, and system design interviews.
Lastly, we iterate.
Improving is a science. We first get the ball rolling so you're actively progressing on your skills and career. Then, we continually improve by identifying the broken links in the chain.
