Celebrate Independence Day early this weekend with firework shows across the county! Enjoy live music, food, drinks and more at the following celebrations:

Saturday and Sunday, Hours Vary

The Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston and Our Special Harbor at Franconia Park are open. The family water park and spray grounds offer slides, flumes, sprays, showers, floatables and more.

Summer Entertainment Series

Friday and Saturday, Times Vary

Watch and listen to a variety of performances this weekend throughout the county as part of our Summer Entertainment Series. Bring a picnic dinner, chairs or blanket and enjoy the music.

Friday, June 27 Events

TEEN Take-N-Make: Pressed Bookmarks (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.) Come pick up materials to make your own pressed bookmark from the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library. We'll include stickers, faux flowers and clear bookmarks. Add anything you have at home to personalize it. First come, first served while materials last.

Virtual Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Training (10 - 11 a.m.)

Join this virtual course to learn how to effectively respond in an overdose situation. The training covers how to administer naloxone and necessary steps. Upon successfully completing the course, residents can request a free box of naloxone.

Draw an Anime Character (11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Learn to draw an anime/manga character through step-by-step instructions by illustrator and comic book artist Orion Zangara at the George Mason Regional Library in Annandale.

Infant and Me Yoga (11:15 - 11:45 a.m.)

Bond with your infant through gentle guided movements, massage and songs while encouraging emotional and physical development at the Martha Washington Library in Alexandria.

Saturday, June 28 Events

Summer Sprint in the Park: Family Friendly 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run (9 a.m.) Enjoy a family friendly race course on grass, trails and roads at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. There will be prizes for the top three male and female 5K finishers. Registration is $5 per runner or $10 per family.

Butterflies, Bees and Beetles (9 - 10 a.m.)

Learn about common pollinators and their importance in native gardens and woodlands at Burke Lake Park. Registration is $8. 

Books and Bubbles: Family Storytime and Bubble Dance Party (10:30 - 11:30 a.m.)

Come enjoy fun summertime stories followed by a bubble dance party at the Centreville Regional Library. 

Preparing for Disasters (10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Learn what to do when disaster strikes in this workshop at the Kings Park Library in Burke. Fairfax County faces many hazards, including major storms, hurricanes and power outages. The first 20 people to register will receive a disaster supply starter kit.

Pride Flag Beads (2 - 3 p.m.)

Create something new with pride flag colored pony beads at the Thomas Jefferson Library in Falls Church. Make a chain, bracelet or keychain. Materials will be provided. 

Whatever It Takes: Ellis Island (2 - 3 p.m.)

Join us for a virtual event to hear stories from some of the 12 million immigrants who passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954. Ellis Island offered them a chance to achieve the American dream for themselves and future generations.

Sheep to Shawl: Weaving (2 - 5 p.m.)

Learn how to warp a loom as part of Pohick Regional Library's Sheep to Shawl series. Start weaving by contributing to a community art project and leave with a small cardboard loom and materials to make your own project.

Chinese Culture Club: Learn to Make Kung Pao Chicken (4:30 – 5:30 p.m.)

Learn how Kung Pao Chicken made its way from China to the United States, and enjoy a delicious tasting at the Dolley Madison Library in McLean. All activities will be in both English and Chinese Mandarin. 

Sunday, June 29 Events

Remembrance - Enslaved Lives at Sully (1 - 2 p.m.) Learn about the lives and legacy of the people enslaved at the Sully Historic Site in Chantilly from the 1700s to the Civil War. This tour includes a walk into the original outbuildings, main house and representative housing for the enslaved. Registration is $10.

Summer Sensory Play (11 a.m. - noon)

Let your little ones explore different sensory stations that spark creativity and engage their senses at the Sherwood Regional Library in Alexandria. For children ages 18 months to 5 years old.
