| The US Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into Andrew Cuomo over testimony he gave last year to Congress about his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic while he was New York’s governor. A spokesperson for Cuomo, who is currently the front-runner among Democrats in New York City’s mayoral race, shot back at the Trump administration, accusing federal officials of engaging in “lawfare and election interference.” The probe, which comes in the wake of the DOJ dropping a corruption case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams — who is running for re-election as an independent — has sparked concerns that the president is using the judicial system to target his political foes.
