spring carnival

Even the big storm couldn't stop the Spring Carnival! Thank you to our PTA for hosting this amazing community event. One of the highlights of the evening was the prize basket raffle. All of our students were given a ticket to enter into the raffle of their choice. Even though only a few students could win a prize, everyone was a winner with their positive attitude.

A Message from Ms. Consolla

We finished the Reading SOLs last week, and students in Grade 3-5 took their Math SOL this week.  I couldn't be prouder of the hard work they put into showing all they have learned.  Piles of scrap paper was used as students showed their thinking, solved in multiple ways to check their work, and worked with focus and persistence. Well done! Parents can begin to see scores in ParentVUE.

Monday, May 26 is Memorial Day and is a holiday for staff and students.  For many, this weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. Whether you will be at the park, by a pool, or traveling near or far, I hope you a wonderful holiday weekend and come back ready to finish strong.

During these last weeks of school, students in the primary grades will be finishing end of year assessments while some of their peers will be taking SOL Retakes.  In all grades, students will be reflecting on their growth as individuals and as a community.  Please continue to send your children to school every day on time so that they can fully participate in these important learning opportunities.

Finally, if you are the parent of a current 6th grader, please scroll down for information about a summer camp and required immunizations.

As always, thank you for your partnership with us in your child's education at Fort Hunt.

SOL Testing Schedule

We had a great second week of testing. This year, we've compressed the testing schedule to minimize the impact on the entire school. It required flexibility on everyone's part, and as usual, our staff and students met the challenge.  Grades 5 & 6 will close out our testing this Tuesday.

  • Tuesday, May 20 | Grade 6 Math & Grade 5 Science
  • May 21-23 | Reading Retakes
  • May 27-30 | Math/Science Retakes

Library Books Due Wed, May 28

We're looking for any and all library books that might be hiding under a bed or couch or in a backpack or in that secret fort built in the closet. Please drop them in the return bin as soon as you find them.

Medication Pick-up

The last day of school is around the corner. Please plan accordingly to pick up your student’s medications!  All medication must be collected by the parent/guardian no later than 1:30pm on Wednesday June 11, 2025. Any medications left in the health room after that time will be destroyed

If your student is enrolled in an FCPS sponsored summer program, the existing medication authorization forms may be used for those programs.  Note that it is parent/guardian's responsibility to pick up the paperwork/med and transport to summer site.

If you have any questions, please contact our Public Health Nurse Ms. Nikki Somerville at nsomerville@fcps.edu or call the Fort Hunt office at 703-619-2600.

Sixth Graders: We Have Required Immunizations for You!

As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
  • Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
  • A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
  • After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents/guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.

Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.
