I have had a fantastic two weeks getting acquainted with the wonderful staff and students here at White Oaks Elementary! The friendly smiles and warm waves have made me feel incredibly welcomed, and I'm grateful for such a positive start. I'm committed to continuing to build meaningful connections with our students during these last four weeks of the school year.
Next, I'm really looking forward to meeting and getting to know the broader White Oaks community. To help make this happen, I'm inviting you to one of two "Principal's Coffee" events on Thursday, May 22nd. You can join me from 9:45 AM – 10:45 AM or later that day from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, preceding the PTA Meeting. My hope is that offering two different times will allow more of you to participate. This will be a great opportunity for us to get to know each other better – for you to learn about me, and for me to hear directly from you about what's important to our community.
This week we have celebrated POSITIVE SOL scores and enjoyed a wonderful band concert. The SCA guided the student body through a self-reflection activity, encouraging them to recognize their successes from this past year. Our librarian cultivated richer engagement with literature through deeper discussions in book club. Additionally, 3rd grade experimented with levers, while our PreK students explored sand, fostering thinking skills through play, exploration, and discovery.
Meanwhile, the Get2Green team partnered with the Girl Scouts to plant vegetables and flowers in our courtyard. This was a fantastic hands-on experience, connecting students with nature and teamwork.
We have received a safety concern regarding student dismissal. It has been reported that some individuals are walking between parked cars and not utilizing the designated crosswalks, creating a potentially dangerous situation. We want to remind all parents and guardians to please exercise caution during dismissal, use the crosswalks at all times, and avoid walking between parked vehicles to ensure the safety of everyone.
Creating the best possible learning experience for your child is our commitment at White Oaks. As we thoughtfully build our classes for the upcoming year, we welcome your insights. If there's any information about your child that you feel would assist us in making the most suitable placement, please share it with us through this brief survey: HERE. We appreciate your understanding that we are unable to honor requests for specific teachers.
Mark your calendars for a special evening! We are thrilled to invite you to celebrate the wonderful achievements and hard work of our incredible 6th graders on Monday, June 9th, at 6:00 PM at Lake Braddock Secondary School. We look forward to sharing this milestone with you!
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school June 11, 2025, at 2:00. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medication to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of summer program. Please let the heath room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Lower Grades (K-3) will be from 1:15 - 3:35 p.m.

Sunday, June 1 from 4-6 pm on the WOES playground, field, and blacktop, we will celebrate at our End of Year Block Party!
The event is free. There will be a DJ, Kona ice truck, and food truck available to purchase food but you may pack and bring your own snacks or dinner. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets to relax on. Feel free to bring balls, chalk, bubbles, or any other fun activity to play on the blacktop, field or playground with friends. Our hope is to end this school year with a fun event where everyone can relax, play, mingle, and continue to meet others in our growing community! We hope you'll join us!
Please note, this is NOT a drop off event and parent/guardian supervision is required!
