A Creed’s Comeback

Our church does something every Sunday that would have been unthinkable in most non-denominational evangelical congregations 20 years ago.

We recite the Nicene Creed.

Well, we make one minor alteration. In the line, "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church," we change the "catholic" to "universal." I chuckled when I noticed the tweak. Can’t have anyone thinking we’re Catholic!

But incorporating this liturgical element in our worship turns out to be part of a larger trend. Christianity Today talked to more than a dozen Christian leaders about why the ancient creed is resonating with a new generation. You’ll learn how the creed is connecting contemporary believers to Christians of the past and facilitating a powerful corporate way of worship. Read: How the Nicene Creed Became Cool Again.
