House of the Future 2025

The registration deadline for the House of the Future Edition #2 – 2024/25 is fast approaching. Organized by Buildner, in partnership with the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme and the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, this international competition challenges architects and designers to reimagine the future of housing for Emirati citizens across the UAE.

This is your opportunity to propose forward-thinking residential designs that are culturally grounded, environmentally responsive, and practically buildable. Submissions should reflect the architectural identity of the UAE, addressing both traditional values and modern aspirations, all within a budget-conscious framework.

Total Prize Fund: 250,000 EUR

• Innovation Award: 45,000 EUR

• 6 Honorable Mentions

Winning designs will be considered for real-world implementation by the UAE government and will be widely publicized through Buildner’s global media network and publications.

The House of the Future 2024/2025 jury brings together a distinguished panel of international architects, designers, and industry leaders, each contributing unique expertise in innovation, sustainability, and culturally responsive design.
 

1. Ahmed Bukhash – Founder of Archidentity, a Dubai-based firm known for integrating regional symbolism into contemporary design.

2. Alison Brooks – Principal of Alison Brooks Architects, one of the UK’s most awarded architects known for innovative, context-driven architecture.

3. Micael Calatrava – Executive Chairman of Calatrava Grace and CEO of Calatrava International, leading global infrastructure and real estate projects.

4. Sumaya Dabbagh – Founder of Dabbagh Architects and RIBA Gulf Chapter Chair, bridging Western and Middle Eastern design perspectives.

5. Andrew Mason – Director of Contracts at Calatrava International, with over 30 years of experience in high-value international development projects.

6. Will Plowman – Partner at Foster + Partners and head of the Dubai office, with a strong background in sustainable and high-profile global architecture.

7. Bertrand Schippan – Partner at MVRDV, instrumental in the firm’s French and Middle Eastern projects, and active in architectural academia.

8. Charles Walker – Director at Zaha Hadid Architects, previously co-founder of the Advanced Geometry Unit at Arup, with deep ties to education and design innovation.
