A Masterpiece in Motion: The 2nd Annual SoCo Art Gala

The Stallion spirit was on full display at our second annual Art Gala, where creativity flowed like a well-conducted symphony. From stunning ceramics and powerful photography to detailed drawings and more, every piece told a story straight from the heart. The evening was brought to life with beautiful live music from our talented student musicians, adding rhythm to the canvas of the night. Thank you to everyone who helped turn our school into a gallery of brilliance—it was truly a masterpiece in motion.

SoCo Celebrates: AAPI Night Shines Bright!

Our very first Asian American Pacific Islander Night lit up South County with culture, pride, and unity. Families and students were treated to vibrant dance performances, stunning fashion showcases, and the rich flavors of authentic Asian cuisine. The evening was a beautiful tapestry of tradition and talent, woven together by our incredible student leaders and community. It was more than an event—it was a powerful step forward in honoring the voices and stories that help shape our Stallion family.

High Quality Instruction

Dynamic Duo: Crafting Minds with Words and Numbers

This week, we celebrate two standout educators who are making a powerful impact in their own unique ways—Ms. Hansen in English 9 and Mrs. K. in Algebra 1. While one brings literature to life through rich discussion and critical thinking, the other turns equations into engaging, accessible challenges that build confidence. Though their subjects differ, their shared passion for student growth and excellence shines through every lesson. We’re fortunate to have such talented teachers serving our students at SoCo!

School Culture

Stallions Shine: National Council of Excellence Award! South County High School’s Student Council has been honored with the prestigious National Council of Excellence status! This recognition speaks volumes about our student leaders’ dedication, creativity, and commitment to service. Their hard work has set a high bar for excellence in leadership and community involvement, making us proud to be Stallions. Of the more than 27,000 public and private high schools in our country, only 1% earned this distinction. Congratulations to Mrs. Peck and our student leaders for receiving this award for the first time in our school’s history!

Leadership

Don’t miss out on being a part of the conversation—sign up today here. Your voice matters in shaping our school’s future!

Student Voices Heard on May 1 Please ask your student to mark their calendars for the Student Advisory Council (SAC) meeting on May 1 during Stallion Time (10:15-11:15)! This is a fantastic chance for students to have a direct impact on school policies and initiatives. It’s the perfect platform for students to share their ideas, concerns, and feedback in a collaborative setting. Let’s continue making SoCo the best it can be, together! Sign-up forms are posted throughout the building via QR codes.

Smooth Sailing: New Traffic Pattern Starting April 28 We’re rolling out a new traffic pattern starting April 28 to improve drop-offs and pick-ups, as well as enhance safety protocols. The new pattern will affect Kiss and Ride and Stallion Drive between 7:45-8:15 AM and 2:45-3:15 PM. With this change, we’re aiming to streamline traffic flow and make the morning and afternoon rush more efficient and safe for everyone. Thank you for your patience as we implement this helpful update!

Core Values in Action: April’s Outstanding Students We are excited to celebrate our April Core Value students, who have demonstrated the characteristics of honesty, trust, curiosity, or hope. These students exemplify these and so many of the other qualities we cherish at South County, from integrity to respect and so much more. Let’s give them a round of applause for their continued commitment to excellence!

Champions in Action: Girls Track Team State Title A huge congratulations to our Girls Track Team, who were recently recognized at the School Board meeting for their incredible achievement—winning the State title! While not all team members were able to attend the celebration, we honor the entire group’s dedication, perseverance, and unity in reaching this milestone. Their collective effort and spirit are what brought this championship home, and we couldn’t be prouder. Let’s continue to cheer them on as they represent South County with pride and excellence!

Club Corner:

South County Ethiopian Eritrean Student Association is a cultural organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting Ethiopian Eritrean students. The club has meetings seasonally to promote dialogue, identity, and solidarity among members. This year, South County EEA participated in International Night, performing dances to represent more than ten tribes and had frequent practices! Alongside that, EEA hosts an Ice Skating Event, Valentine's Day, and Senior Goodbye. If you want to get closer to your community, learn about Ethiopian/Eritrean culture, and make new friends, come to their next meeting!  Feel free to reach out to their sponsor, Ms. Reid at treid1@fcps.edu for more information.

As one can easily see, South County is a busy school community, and we ALWAYS appreciate the support that our students, staff, parents, and community members provide.

Have a relaxing weekend!

From the Testing Office

Parents – WE NEED YOU!!! - AP Testing Parent Volunteers

The Testing Office is in need of parent volunteers to help support Advanced Placement (AP) Testing from May 5 through May 16.  Volunteers would support the Student Services staff in checking in students, distributing tests, and supporting test security during the exams.  To avoid conflicts of interest, we ask that parents do not volunteer during their own student’s exam.  Please go to the Sign-Up Genius linked below to volunteer:

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FABA82FA0FE3-56261616-aptesting

SOL and AP Testing Calendars

The calendars for both AP testing and SOL testing are available on the SCHS web page through the Student Services section. Some students with special testing accommodations may test earlier than the posted dates and will be contacted via email.  The next date with a modified bell schedule will be May 1.

Early Release/ Late Arrival on Test Days for Advanced Placement (AP) Testers

In the past, many of our students who are taking morning AP exams have brought in parent excuses for an early release; likewise, students taking afternoon AP exams have come in late with notes from home.

In order to facilitate and expedite the attendance process during the AP testing window, we are asking that you use this form if you wish to excuse your student from classes on the days when he/she will be taking AP Exams. Forms are due to Ms. Clarke in the Attendance Office no later than Wednesday April 30th with no exceptions.  Once this form is submitted, you do NOT need to call your student in or out on an AP testing day.

Spring Concession Stand Sign Up

Spring Sports are underway and we NEED your help! In order for us to keep our concession stand up and running we need volunteers to assist us on game nights. The revenue generated through concession serves as the SCHS Athletic Booster Club's primary source of funding. The money earned goes right back to the sports teams to cover the costs of equipment, uniforms, and more! Any family can volunteer! You do not need to have a student participating in Sports to make an impact! Visit the link below or the QR code and consider helping us out one night! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
