Atoms Athletics Recap

Baseball kicked off the first week back from spring with district opponents. Game one a was rubber match with Mt. Vernon. Early on was a back and forth affair with teams trading multiple runs across the first three innings. After that, the Majors took advantage of mistakes by the Atoms to run away with the district win. The Atoms ended the week with a game vs Falls Church. The Jaguars allowed the Atoms one run while they put eleven across the plate to get the district win. Next up for the Atoms is a trip to Hayfield Tuesday.

Softball played host to district foes Mt. Vernon and Falls Church this week. First up was the Majors and the fans were treated to an exciting game that saw it come down to the last inning. Unfortunately, the result didn't go in the favor of the Atoms as the Majors won 10-8. Second game of the week welcome Falls Church to Ossian Park for senior night. The Atoms celebrated their two seniors and played a great game to come away with a 9-7 win over the rival Jaguars. The Atoms play Hayfield on Tuesday.

Boys Lacrosse held senior night to honor the senior class of 2025. It was a great night of celebration and play by the Atoms as they got up early and held on for a great win over NOVA Home School. The Atoms were up by as many as 6 before the Lions battled their way back but the final horn sounded to send the seniors off on a great note. Next up is Falls Church Thursday.

Girls Lacrosse played host to a talented Meridian team Wednesday evening. The Mustangs came in firing and put the Atoms away early to run away and head back to Falls Church City with a W. The Atoms welcome Falls Church to campus Thursday.

Boys Soccer played two pivotal district games this week. First up was a trip to Justice. The Atoms scored early and carried a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. The second half saw the Atoms tack on two more and pull away with a 3-0 win. Game two was a trip to district/region power Lewis. The Atoms came out flat early and faced a 4-0 deficit going into the second half, which was a different story. The Atoms woke up and scored 3 to put some pressure on the Lancers but unfortunately couldn't get a fourth goal in to tie. The Atoms welcome Edison to Annandale Tuesday.

Girls Soccer played host to Justice and Lewis this week. The Atoms shredded the Wolves on their way to a 3-0 win and running their shutout game streak to 5 games! Thursday night was a celebration for the senior class of the team and it looked like celebration piece spilled over into the game a bit as it took a few minutes for the Atoms to get rolling. The Atoms scored 1 early but unfortunately, lost the shutout streak on a PK for the Lancers. The Atoms held a 2-1 advantage at half time and took care of business in the second half, adding two goals to win 4-1. Next up is a trip to Edison Tuesday.

Boys Tennis had the pleasure of playing three matches in three days, thanks to inclement weather and rescheduling. First was a trip to Hayfield where the Atoms played hard but couldn't hold down the Hawks. Wednesday was a reschedule with Falls Church. The Atoms again played hard but the Jaguars were too much for the Atoms. Match three was Justice and the Atoms were spent from the previous two matches as they fell to the Wolves Thursday evening. Next up is a match with Edison Monday.

Girls Tennis had a similar schedule to the boys with three matches in three days. The welcomed Hayfield to Annandale Tuesday and gave the Hawks all they could handle. Unfortunately the Hawks pulled away from the Atoms. Wednesday was a trip to Hayfield. The growth and development of the team showed in this match as it took the Hawks everything they had to come away with a 5-4 win over the Atoms. Thursday proved to be a match of attrition for the Atoms as they played hard but didn't have much for the Wolves.

Outdoor Track got back on the rubber surface with a trip to Hayfield for their first meet back from break. The meet was an opportunity for the Atoms to get their legs under them as they prepare for the upcoming district championship meet in May. Several Atoms qualified for the district meet with hopes for region qualifying this week at Edison.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Odessa Murray.
