Jessie Holmes, a 43-year-old Alabamian who came to Alaska more than 20 years ago, has achieved his first victory in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, crossing the finish line early Friday morning in Nome. Holmes' victory is a major capstone in a short but remarkably successful Iditarod career.
