Click here ![]() Tuesday, 25 February 2025 REMINDER MEDIA ADVISORY Third meeting of the International Health Regulations (IHR) Emergency Committee on the mpox upsurge The third meeting of the Emergency Committee for the mpox upsurge, convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (IHR), will be held on Tuesday, 25 February 2025. Following the meeting, the Emergency Committee will advise WHO’s Director-General as to whether the mpox upsurge still constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). The Emergency Committee will also review the temporary recommendations issued to WHO and its Member States. The decision of the Director-General following the advice of the Emergency Committee will be shared after the meeting. The Committee’s statement, once issued, will be shared with the media. The IHR Emergency Committee regarding the upsurge of mpox 2024 held its first meeting on 14 August 2024. On the same day, the WHO Director-General determined the event to constitute a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), and, on 19 August 2024, he issued temporary recommendations to States Parties. The Director-General's revised set of temporary recommendations was issued on 27 November 2024, following the second meeting of the Committee.
