Today's pick is on India’s quest for a 5th generation fighter aircraft as well as an adequate number of single-engine fighter jets.

The recently concluded Aero India 2025 saw the participation of two 5th generation fighter aircraft, US' F-35 and Russia's Su-57, both of which are on offer to India as China leapfrogs in stealth technology.

At the air show the Chief of the Air Staff lay bare his anguish on delayed delivery of the single-engine Tejas fighter aircraft as the IAF struggles with a dwindling fleet. India needs both a robust programme for domestic manufacturing of single engine-jet aircraft and a clear roadmap for developing 5th generation aircraft.

On the ground from Aero India 2025 which was held in Yelahanka recently, ET Infra talked to industry stakeholders. The interactions outline that nascent steps are being taken which if successful will lay the foundations for domestic development of a 5th generation aircraft engine.

ET Infra presents a detailed story on stakeholders' views on India’s evolving aerospace and defence landscape. Read full story here.
