Girls Basketball - This week saw both basketball teams compete in their respective district tournaments. The Lady Hawks rolled through Annandale on Tuesday (70-11) and Mt. Vernon on Wednesday (62-30) before taking on the Edison Eagles Friday night. The game was back and forth all night with the Hawks taking the early lead and then having to fight back to send the game into overtime before ultimately falling 46-50. Despite the loss, the girls finish second in the district tournament and advance to region play next Tuesday at Hayfield.
Boys Basketball - The boys team also took care of business in the first two rounds of the tournament, knocking out Falls Church (91-29) and Mt. Vernon (72-32) before being the second game of the Edison double header championship evening Friday. The Eagles boys came to play as well, taking an early 11-0 lead in front of a packed Hawk's Nest. The home team fought back though and came out on top of a tightly contested game, 56-53, to earn the National District Title! The boys will also start their region path next Tuesday at home.
Wrestling - The wrestling team was originally scheduled to travel to Virginia Beach to compete in the state tournament on Friday and Saturday. Due to the heavy snow received in the southern portion of the state, the meet has been postponed until March 1st and will now be at Salem High School in Virginia Beach.
Concession Stand
Region basketball starts Tuesday and we are still in need of help in the concession stand! To sign up and volunteer to work the concession stand at any of our upcoming home play-off games click HERE!
Ticket Prices
Region ticket prices have changed this year. Student tickets are still $5 while adult prices have been raised to $10. Please note that booster passes are not accepted for post season contests.
With spring sports try-outs starting tomorrow, Monday, February 24, be sure to get your VHSL physical form completed and turned in to the activities office ASAP. The form can be found HERE.
Also make sure to register through they Hayfield Athletic website prior to the first day of try-outs. Registration Link.
